“That was really tough out there, especially in the second game. I was so nervous although it’s my second Paralympic Games. I fought through it. We decided to have to same hairstyle for the opening match. Who knows what it will be for the next one.” – Cynthia Mathez (WH1/2)
“I gave it everything I had. Every shot I played Daniel (Bethell) had an answer for it. I tried to be patient, relaxed and play some longer rallies. Having Jurgen (Klopp) here was great for me and I hope, great for the sport. He’s family to me.” – Wojtek Czyz (SL3)
“It’s a really good start to the Paralympics. I needed a lot of focus in the match, it’s a different environment to what I’m used to playing in. I heard Klopp yell out after my match: ‘Well played, Dan,’ and that was a special moment and great to have so much media attention on my match against Czyz. Not a moment I’ll forget anytime soon.” – Daniel Bethell (Sl3)
“I was really nervous coming onto court today. I haven’t experienced a crowd like this before and the arena is amazing. This was the first time one of matches against Joshi had gone to three games, but I think I was nervous.” – Qiontah Ikhtiar Syakuroh (SL3)
“The good thing about Paralympics is number of matches are less. But again, the challenging thing is the quality of matches are extremely good because of the top players. My singles group is tough. We have trained for this and we are all trying to peak at the right time for the Paralympics.” – Suhas Lalinakere Yathiraj (SL4)
We wanted to start strong, and we did that at the first part of the match. They (Subhan/Marlina) know how to play us very well. We found it difficult to gain some momentum. Or they, they found their momentum in the first and then in the second, they continued that momentum. It was just hard to for us to come to that at the time. So, yeah, bit disappointed.” – Rachel Choong (SH6)
“I came into the match feeling really confident and I’m happy with my game play and what I did on court. When I defended, Cheah was super good in the attack area. He leaves no room for error, he’ll just punish you. I loved the court and the area. It’s great.” – Bartlomiej Mroz (SU5)
“It was pretty difficult during qualification, especially since I was in high school throughout the qualification, knowing I had to do all the homework and everything as well as play, it was a bit hard.” – Miles Krajewski (SH6)
“I’m very confident because everybody in my category is afraid of me… and I’m afraid of them.” – Mariam Eniola Bolaji (SL3)
“There are a lot of emotions right now after getting a first win for France at Paris 2024. I’m playing at home in front of my family and friends. It took a lot of power. I hope this motivates the rest of the French team in their next matches.” – Charles Noakes (SH6)
“I’m so proud to be here watching my friend Wojtek Czyz (SL3). I had tears in my eyes. His story is crazy when you think of all the things he has achieved. His story is so inspiring, so special. People may think they have challenges but when you see those competing in Para sports. They have challenges on top of challenges. Stories are about ups and downs and in the end, we all want a happy ending.” – Jurgen Klopp.
