India dominated the Uganda Para-Badminton International 2019, winning 11 of the 20 events on the final day in Kampala yesterday.
The results signify that the Indians could be a force to reckon with at the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020.
Parul Dalsukhbhai Parmar emerged the most successful player of the championships, winning all her three events. Parmar outplayed compatriot Manasi Girishchandra Joshi in the women’s singles Standing Lower (SL 3) final, 21-14 21-12, and captured the women’s doubles Standing Lower – Standing Upper (SL 3 – SU 5) title with Palak Kohli. The Indian duo got the better of Zehra Baglar and Joshi 21-15 16-21 21-15.
Parmar wasn’t done yet, as she and Raj Kumar claimed the mixed doubles SL 3 – SU 5 crown beating France’s Guillaume Gailly and Mary Margaret Wilson (Scotland) 21-16 21-10.
As many as six of the finals were all-India affairs. Among those to score a double were Pramod Bhagat, Nagar Krishna, Raj Kumar (all India) and Pilar Jaurequi Cancino (Peru).
For hosts Uganda, Joy Florence Nabadda won third place in the Short Stature (SS 6), behind Ruth Mueni Nzioka (Kenya) and Moline Mavhunga (Zimbabwe).
