Hong Kong’s Chu Man Kai and India’s Nagar Krishna hold the joint lead in the men’s singles Short Stature (SS 6) class in the Race to Tokyo Paralympic Games rankings.
The men’s singles is the only category in SS 6 that is on the programme for the Tokyo Paralympics.
Chu and Krishna have 1730 points each. Chu beat Krishna in the final of the Turkish Para-Badminton International, but the Indian won the next two tournaments in Dubai and Uganda.
Chu also had a memorable outing at the Canada Para-Badminton International, where he made the final, going down to England’s Jack Shephard in three games.
Shephard, who was BWF Para-Badminton Player of the Year in 2018, had a relatively slow start to the season, going down in the semifinals to Nagar Krishna in Turkey and Dubai, before his memorable triumph in Canada. Shephard is 200 points behind Chu and Krishna.
In fourth place is fellow-Englishman Krysten Coombs, who fell in a close final at the Dubai Para-Badminton International to Nagar Krishna. Coombs also made the last-four of the Canada Para-Badminton International.
Hong Kong’s Wong Chun Yim, semifinalist in Canada, is in fifth place, ahead of India’s Raja Magotra.
Brazil’s Vitor Goncalves Tavares and Malaysia’s Didin Taresoh are seventh and eighth respectively, while the ninth spot is shared by three players – Ireland’s Niall McVeigh, England’s Andrew Martin, and China’s Luo Guangliang.
