Spanish Para Toledo: Bethell’s Winning Streak Continues

Daniel Bethell‘s impressive winning sequence hit 33 as the English SL3 player won his fifth tournament on the trot.

Bethell captured the Spanish Para Badminton International Toledo 2023, his second title in two weeks after the Spanish Para Badminton International in Vitoria.

Bethell has been in unbeatable form since losing the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games final to Pramod Bhagat. He won all six of his events since then, beating the Paralympic Games champion in every one of those finals, barring the Bahrain Para Badminton International 2022 final which he withdrew due to injury.

On Sunday in Toledo, Bethell wrapped it up in straight games over Bhagat, 21-6 21-18.

Helle Sofie Sagoy took home the SL3 women’s singles crown beating Haruka Fujino 21-12 21-14.

Highlights

Korea’s Choi Jung Man (WH1) made three finals, winning two – the mixed doubles (WH1-WH2) with Lee Sun Ae, and the men’s doubles with Kim Jung Jun. Choi however lost the men’s singles WH1 final to Japan’s Hiroshi Murayama 18-21 21-19 21-11.
Other double titlists on the day were Japan’s Yuma Yamazaki (WH2), Sarina Satomi (WH1), France’s Lucas Mazur (SL4), and Indonesia’s Rina Marlina (SH6).
WH2 Paralympic Games champion Daiki Kajiwara’s unbeaten run since 2021 continued, as the Japanese won his 12^th tournament in a row, beating familiar rival Kim Jung Jun.
India won four titles, through Mandeep Kaur (SL3), Manisha Ramadass (SU5), Manasi Girishchandra Joshi/Shanthiya Viswanathan (SL3-SU5) and Chirag Baretha/Raj Kumar (SU5).
