The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games are round the corner, and we look at the top stars in each category.
Here are the prominent names to look out for in the Short Stature (SH6) class at Paris 2024, due to start Thursday 29 August 2024.
Chu Man Kai (Hong Kong China)
The Hong Kong China player has been a frequent podium topper over the last few years in singles and doubles. At Tokyo 2020 he won silver in singles, and later added the World Championships gold in 2022 in the same city. With four straight titles (Spanish PB International I & II, Bahrain and 4 Nations) this season, he will be the man to beat in Paris.
Krishna Nagar (India)
The defending champion won his first Para Badminton World Championships gold in February, and then finished runner-up at the 4 Nations Para Badminton International in June.
Jack Shephard (Great Britain)
At the World Championships Shephard has a full set of singles medals, and bronze and silver in mixed. With Rachel Choong in the mixed, the pair won three of four events this year and will be favourites in Paris.
Rina Marlina (Indonesia)
The Indonesian was a prolific winner in singles and mixed (with Subhan Subhan) until her retirement in the women’s singles final of the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games last October. Since then she has competed in only one tournament – the 4 Nations – where she and Subhan won the mixed without dropping a game.
Rachel Choong (Great Britain)
Perhaps Para badminton’s most accomplished player, having first made her mark at the European Championships in 2008 with a double. In 2015 and 2017 she would sweep all three titles at the World Championships and would go on to complete a haul of 10 gold, a silver and a bronze. This year, with a singles title in Bahrain and three mixed doubles titles, Choong will head to her first Paralympics full of confidence.
Krysten Coombs (Great Britain)
Another of Para badminton’s durable stars. Won a singles bronze at Tokyo 2020 to go with his World Championships silver from 2017 and doubles gold from 2015. Has had reasonably good results in singles this year, and will head to Paris after a semifinal finish at the 4 Nations.
