Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, who shoulder Indonesia’s hopes in men’s doubles at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, will be challenged by Indian, German and French pairs in the group stage.
Indonesia have an inspiring history in men’s doubles at the Olympics, having won three gold medals from the first five editions, but have yet to win a medal since 2012. They will look to Alfian/Ardianto, who won the prestigious YONEX All England title in March, to restore their glory in this category.
But Alfian/Ardiano, in Group C, will have to contend with Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/Chirag Shetty, who played four finals this year, besides France’s Lucas Corvee/Ronan Labar and Germany’s Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel.
Following all the group matches, the top two pairs will progress to the knockout stage.

World champions Kang Min Hyuk/Seo Seung Jae (Korea) find themselves grouped with France’s Christo Popov/Toma Junior Popov, Thailand’s Supak Jomkoh/Kittinupong Kedren and Czechia’s Ondrej Kral/Adam Mendrek in Group B. Kang/Seo will attempt to regain the gold for Korea which they last won in 2004.
World No.1 Liang Wei Keng/Wang Chang (China), winners of the KAPAL API Indonesia Open 2024 last month, face Tokyo 2020 bronze medallists Aaron Chia/Soh Wooi Yik of Malaysia, Ben Lane/Sean Vendy of Great Britain, and Dong Adam/Nyl Yakura of Canada in Group A.
Group D has five pairs including reigning Olympic champions Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin (Chinese Taipei) and World Championships silver medallists Kim Astrup/Anders Skaarup Rasmussen (Denmark). The other three pairs are China’s Liu Yu Chen/Ou Xuan Yi, 2021 world champions Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi, and USA’s Vinson Chiu/Joshua Yuan.
