Greysia Polii‘s road to redemption came full circle at Tokyo 2020 as she and partner Apriyani Rahayu gutsed their way to women’s doubles glory, defeating Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan in a final to remember. It was Indonesia’s first medal of any colour in women’s doubles.
Just nine years before, Polii and then-partner Meiliana Jauhari were disqualified at London 2012 along with a Chinese pair and two Korean pairs for not giving their best on court.
From the depths of despair, through injury, thoughts of retirement and personal tragedy, to the loftiest high in 2021, it was the perfect way for Polii to sign off on a remarkable career.
Rahayu is now back with new partner Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti to fly the flag for Indonesia at Paris 2024.
