Carolina Marin has ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament of her right knee, her team has confirmed.
Marin, forced to retire from her Paris 2024 Olympic Games women’s singles semifinal against He Bing Jiao on Sunday, August 4 at Porte de la Chapelle Arena, had her diagnosis confirmed following a second round of tests carried out upon her return to Madrid on Monday.
The Rio 2016 gold medallist and three-time world champion was a game up and leading He 10-8 in the second when she collapsed clutching her right knee after reaching for a return.
The tests also revealed that both her menisci were affected.
Further assessments will be conducted before a suitable treatment plan is determined.
We wish Marin a speedy recovery.
