Spain’s Carolina Marin announced herself to the world at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games becoming the first European women’s singles Olympic champion, defeating Pusarla V. Sindhu in three game over 83 minutes.
Unfortunately, the Spaniard could not defend her Rio Olympic gold medal at Tokyo 2020, but has come back strong after two knee surgeries. With three back-to-back titles this season, including the All England, Marin will be a strong contender at Paris 2024.
